I am reviewing after using for a few weeks and it works as advertised. I had no trouble releasing it, and the folding mechanism doesn't "pop", it lays flat against the computer when I move it and only opens when I manually move it to the open position. Sure, it keeps the Mac cooler, no question about it. Air can circulate easily and the high-speed fan seems to come on less often. I'm only giving one star because $20 seems a lot for a simple piece of plastic, but it's certainly a reasonable price considering the quality and functionality. I tried using a similar sized book before buying just to see if I liked the writing layout (thinking maybe a book would suffice rather than buying this one) but I ended up in the position I was in knew I wanted this. Since I travel and use my laptop everywhere, I didn't want to carry a book around with me. If you NEVER move your Mac (which of course isn't realistic), a right-sized book might work for you. You can also try a book first to see if that writing position suits you.
