So first off these run about a full size bigger, so in my case I wear a size 11 and ended up with a size 10 in these. Second if you have a thicker/wider foot you can remove the inner liner to get more space.I based my star rating on my intended use, boating and beach/sandbar duty. They are easy to slip on, fairly breathable and stayed on while trudging through 3ft deep water w/ sandy bottom walking. They did fill up with a good amount of sand, but a simple remove and dump fixed the issue(not self cleaning as with some sandal type designs). I had 1 or 2 pieces of shell stuck in the bottom holes, but nothing that I even noticed let alone poked through to my foot. I can however see where pebbles and hiking type rocks could possibly cause issues. Which leads me to the 2nd part of my review. I took a few short hikes in these and while I didn't get any sore foot from 'rock stabs', the fit wasn't firm enough that I'll be using these for any dedicated hikes. Too much slip and not enough stability for what I'd want in a hiker. There are better, albeit it more expensive options, for a primary wet hiking shoe.
