Handle with care! But when you order a replacement carafe for your Cuisinart 14-cup coffee maker, you already know that because you broke the original carafe. How did I break mine you ask? After pouring the rest of the coffee into the mug, I pressed the button that turned off the burner on my DCC-3200, then rinsed out the carafe and placed it in the coffee maker with the burner still hot. Moments later, to my astonishment, the bottom glass of the carafe cracked all around, separating it cleanly from the top. And that with the coffee machine completely switched off. Without the liquid in the carafe to soften its temperature, the thin glass could not withstand the residual heat from the burner. Cuisinart isn't the only company to understaff their decanters, but at their prices, that's no excuse. I remember with the Mr. Coffee I had a few years ago, I put the empty carafe too hard on our tiled worktop and it broke instantly. Like Cuisinart, the Mr. Coffee decanter glass was so subtle that there was no room for error. Our replacement Cuisinart decanter reviewed here was shipped promptly by Revain and was well packaged to avoid breakage in transit. And it's perfect for our 14 cup model. But experience has taught me to treat it like crystal. After finishing the rest of my morning coffee and turning off the Cuisinart DCC-3200 coffee maker (which is excellent by the way), I rinse out the carafe and carefully place it on the tiled countertop, NOT on the coffee maker. -Hot burner. word to the wise. . .
