The monitor allows you to easily adjust the water temperature. This is a great feature. The monitor also has a red LED and a green LED. Nowhere in the manual is the meaning of the LEDs explained. Apparently the red LED means the device is armed. I still don't know what the green LED means, but I can turn it on and off. It doesn't seem to matter. I bought this to replace a 6 gallon tank block that had frozen and burst. When I opened the white cover of the Girard control box to inspect the circuit board, I found that the fan wiring harness had been pinched between the box body and the box lid during assembly, potentially damaging the wires: another example of poor workmanship, poor control and lack of quality control. To be fair, I have to say that I find poor workmanship and manufacturing defects everywhere. Hibernation is a problem as it is not possible to drain the unit without draining the water from the system and blowing air through it. Otherwise, you need to keep the LPG and 12V DC power supply to protect the unit or antifreeze for the whole water system. This is important because driving or towing your RV in sub-zero temperatures can freeze the heat exchanger as it is exposed to outside air through the door opening and your propane will need to be turned off when you are out. I don't like it because the rest of my water system is insulated and the fresh water tank is electrically heated to prevent freezing so I can camp in freezing weather with liquid water, even without propane, and not have to dump the water. . blowing the entire water system (and air through) every time I drive through the mountains or spend a cold night in the desert without propane. How do you blow air through the heat exchanger on the go? Hot water tanks, on the other hand, are insulated and equipped with a drain plug. This unit requires a drain valve if needed, so I hooked up my plumbing at the lowest point next to the Girard unit and installed my own drain for the hot water circuit only. This may have voided my warranty, but the warranty does not cover damage from freezing. See attached photos. UPDATE This water heater works great and has the best performance. I found a broken pipe weld, but I still think this product deserves 4,625 stars. To be fair, I find flaws in EVERYTHING! I found a leak in the water supply line where the safety valve is connected. This happened when the temperature dropped to 32F for about an hour and I didn't have a 12V DC power supply. A damaged pipe is only $29, but it takes a lot of work to replace. I highly recommend checking the relief valve setting after installing the unit. This is not described in the instructions. It's the thing that looks like a spline in the bottom right corner. To adjust the pressure relief valve, use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the inside (core) of the safety valve until water comes out under water pressure, and then turn the core until the water stops. When I installed my unit, I also installed a drain valve at the very bottom of my hot water system so I wouldn't have winterization issues, but I eventually found I could do the same thing by removing the valve's pressure relief. valve assembly by unscrewing it from the fitting on the water inlet. This is accomplished by turning the splined shaft counter-clockwise until it separates from the water inlet pipe. You must still flush the system with air to remove all water. For all-weather use, I think this is better than using a tank device.
