Newly purchased home with hot tub. The house was built in 2002, the bathtub was installed by the client. So we're talking about a 19-year-old bathtub. About a month after moving into my newly purchased home, I decided to open a hot tub. I was shocked by the black flakes that quickly appeared in the water. Slightly alarmed and quite disgusted, I began exploring the "black flake" spikes in the hot tubs. I've never had a hot tub before. I decided I could solve this problem and a good cleaning would quickly fix this gross situation. Wow, was I ever wrong. I spent a lot of time (and money) on competing products before discovering SpaKleen. Oh yuk showed promise and squeezed out a few flakes, but failed to thoroughly clean the biofilm that had been living in pipe coils for almost 20 years. Jacuzzi Systems' own product Clean did nothing. Whirlout did little. My own mixtures of vinegar, baking soda, dish soap, bleach (don't use bleach, I was desperate) are practically useless. That deep, caked biofilm was tough! Then I found SpaKleen. SpaKleen thoroughly cleaned the biofilm from the flexible tubing. I was shocked at how much biofilm was left after multiple uses of previous products. I can't say enough about the product, it works. Be patient, depending on how your jet engine was serviced (or not) you may need multiple passes. But with SpaKleen you get a clean system. In addition, this product does not contain any corrosive substances. Not only will this not damage your hot tub systems (piping and motor), but it will not damage your septic tank either. If you find yourself in the local sewer, you can be sure that you will not damage public infrastructure! Last but not least, SpaKleen's customer service team is fantastic. They answer the phone, they're knowledgeable (a lot of serious chemistry involved here) and will do whatever it takes to tell you what's going on with your bathroom and the details behind what biofilm really is and how they're trying to fix it knock out. Oh yes, and the price of cleaning is amazing.
