Review on MG Chemicals Clean Desoldering Length Industrial Power & Hand Tools by Kevin Woods

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is your first time using Braid, but you can be a lifetime MG Chemicals user!

First of all I have to say that I am buying a braid for the first time. I have only used the braid once prior to this purchase when I only had to desolder 2 components. So with that said, let's get to the rating! I first noticed MG Chemical because of the many positive reviews of their products. (Note: I also purchased MG Chem 8341 Flux Paste with this order). I read the reviews on Other. The forums have helped me to at least try this product, especially MG Chem and see if their stuff lives up to the hype. Needless to say I'm impressed so far and will probably be a braid and flux shopper for life. As far as I know it's called "Super Wick" because of the thin braid. This was an issue that was addressed in a variety of ways. Electronics forums, but in my experience I have to say that this helps it heat up a lot more. I mainly deal with SMD, so the less time it takes to desolder the better. Another point that bothered me was the width. Since it's only 0.1 inch I knew it would be thinner, but again this works really well when it comes to SMD. So, now to "dislike". I don't mind, except that you need at least 3 inches of braid because of the thin braid, unless you want the braid holder (rubber/plastic) to melt a bit. I have a couple of marks from him that only give him about 2 inches of lead and it got hot enough in those 2 inches to melt part of the container. This isn't really a dislike, more of a warning that the container needs to be in tip-top shape. If you have any doubts about this product, I highly recommend trying it and seeing how it works. Now that I have almost no experience with weaving, I only have to give it 4 stars. Over time as I try other braids the stars will change accordingly but I really hope to change this to 5 stars in the future.
