CS Osborne tools have always been hit or miss for me. It was a bit of an accident. The blade is made of quality steel and appears well hardened. I know this because I had to sharpen it before I could use it. I tried but I couldn't get him to drop anything. I was hoping this would make gliding a little easier on longer, curved edge trails. I spent some time sharpening and sanding it, after that I was able to sand with it. If you don't mind spending an hour or two grinding a new cutting tool before you can use it, this tool will work. Handling such a sharpening knife requires some practice, so you have to be patient.
