I bought two of these last month and they both failed after a single rain. I guess it's my fault for placing that "outside" outlet in a horizontal position under a canopy. We've had heavy rain for the past few weeks and when the rain stopped my electrical outlet stopped working on both occasions. Every time you unplug the plug and put it in, the standing water can flow out. In both cases, the socket stopped working. The initial setup was great. I used mine with my SmartThings. I found it quickly, both sockets were easy to set up. I also got it working via Alexa very easily (maybe thanks to SmartThings?). I was expecting this unit to hold water on its own as it was labeled 'Outdoor' and IP65. It was a wrong assumption on my part. IP65 means dustproof and protected against water escaping from the nozzle. If I were to spend another $40 on this device I would take the device apart and coat the circuit board with Corrosion-X or something similar and then wrap the socket in plastic.
