Maybe my situation is more unique. I first bought my own cable modem/router with built-in WiFi. Then I found that my Wi-Fi extender, which I had previously used with my DSL router, was a bit outdated and couldn't handle the gigabit speeds of my new wired connection. So my cable modem/router is a Motorola MG8702, so I figured it would be better to use the Motorola Mesh system for better compatibility. Setup was complicated by the fact that I already had two Wi-Fi networks that came with the main router and the extender I previously had. The easiest way to set this up was I had to disable WiFi on the MG8702 and just use this system for WiFi. After doing that, setup was a lot easier and I now have good coverage in an old house with a lathe and plaster walls that block the signal quite a bit. I was able to place the two nodes within sight of each other through a couple of doors and walk around the corner to the TV so we had good streaming performance. You probably have to see the house to understand. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because Motorola's setup documentation is pretty useless in my case. I had to figure it out myself, through trial and error.
