I replaced my old radio with this one (which was a different brand but looked the same as the 'old version' of this radio). The old one worked great until I dropped it and it broke. The new radio has better sound out of the speaker, although the speaker appears to be the same size, so the interior space of the larger case is likely to offer an improvement. When you turn on the radio for the first time when using the AM mode, you will be bothered by the battery level monitor. As soon as the battery status LEDs go out, the reception improves. I compared it to another pocket radio (Sangean) but the AM reception was still not that good. FM reception was better than my other radios like this one.
