I got this because my new graphics card only has DVI and HDMI but HDMI is used for my second monitor and my first monitor has DVI and VGA connectors but I only had a VGA cable at hand. That said, in order to use my first monitor with my new graphics card, I had to either buy a DVI cable or an adapter like this one. I chose this one because it was a dollar cheaper than the nearest DVI-D cable of the length I needed. For the most part it worked as expected. The only problem is that when my computer boots up, the screen flickers until the lock screen appears. While it didn't affect performance, it's a bit annoying as far as I can tell. I borrowed a family member's DVI cable and it didn't flicker on boot, proving that the flickering was caused by this adapter. For that reason, I'd say it's definitely worth getting a cable that's only a few dollars more expensive, but other than that it's a serviceable product. It's also possible I just got a dud.
