At first I was happy with this purchase. I thought we finally found a way to stop our kids from eating all the snacks in the house in one day during the perpetual lockdown. But I was immediately disappointed when it only took my kids (7, 11, 13) 5 seconds to destroy it. It turns out that once the offender (my kids in this case) closes the closet door (or whatever) it's attached to after being counted, the alarm is immediately DEACTIVATED. You (the installer/owner of the alarm) do NOT need to disable the alarm once it has been triggered. So if you're smart like my kids, quickly open and close the door (allowing only a faint squeak), after which the alarm will go off (again - this disarming is automatic - you didn't do anything) and then along with everyone else in the house Steal cookies from cookie jars. I believe this automatic deactivation is to prevent the alarm from continuing to beep loudly in situations where it would startle the offender (e.g. a person with Alzheimer's). ), but if you're trying to keep sane, smart people off the cookie jar, forget it. This alarm clock is not for you.
