I used it in a solar water heater project. I am using photovoltaic panels to power the DC element in the water heater tank. The #8 red wires coming from the PV panels go through the relay to the cell. I used a 12v dc transformer (wall wart) to pass a small amount of current through the thermostat to the water heater and then back to the relay so the thermostat setting controls the relay and allows current to flow from the roof panels to the dc element. and heat the water. Traditional water heater thermostats are not designed for direct current and will burn off the contacts in the thermostat fairly quickly. This relay is rated at 120 amps(!) which is way too much for the 20-30 amps my panels send to the element so it should last a long time.
