Item arrived brand new and in good condition as shown in the photos. But the instructions are poor and I suggest you read ALL the reviews to understand a few things. Example: In order to lock the sliding bar and make the product work, two SQUARE metal bars must be slightly TURNED. If you don't do this, the trailing edge will slide down and you will not be protected. Once you press the clip on the joint of the bar, you can adjust the length and rotate again. My door opening was 34 1/2 inches. The two bar product is only 34 1/8. Adding a 3rd bar made the job too long. I had to put a piece of wood against the side of the wall to make up the difference. So yes, you will need longer screws to get the block of wood in place and reach the post in the wall. The included 1/2" screws then work to mount the actual product on each end. It's all metal and looks like it will last a few years.
