They want it for the winter

It is undoubtedly expensive. I think they're worth it if you're committed to cold weather riding. I use them from around 25 to 50F (I just don't ride below 25) on trips up to 45 miles. Success. It's awesome. The boots don't get windy anymore, I've walked through flowing streams and they've stayed completely dry, and the toe box is very roomy so you can put toe warmers in there. You still need good socks and/or toe warmers. These shoes run about a half US size / 1 EU size larger than you would expect in my opinion. I usually wear 12.5/13.47 shoes in Shimano (I needed 48 in XC7). I bought the 47 and it has enough space. Maybe 46 would be good, then thick socks might be too big. You may have read that they are difficult to fit in. That's true, but once the shoes break in, it definitely gets easier. Loosening the BOA strap also helps. I don't see this as a major issue and probably offers a higher "water resistance line" than if the zip were lower, which I appreciate. If I had 2 improvements I could suggest to the development team: 1. The toe box is a bit too big and a slightly tighter fit would provide better power transfer.2. Thermal insulation could be improved, but again, warmer socks are probably your best option for flexibility. I also bought and returned Arctic X5 shoes. The fit was the complete opposite of the X2 - the 47's in the X5 were too tight and I could never fit thick socks and toe warmers in there. I found little to no information on the differences between the X2 and X5 and didn't go beyond the significant difference in fit.

Pros

Cons
  • Some difficulties
