Use eye protection and other protective equipment!
Wait to use. They throw out a few loose wires, which is what you would expect from ANY wheel with a wire. I bought an inexpensive leather apron that I wear when I use it. Most of what I do is at waist height, and those little wires flying at hypersonic speeds don't pierce me at waist height anymore, if you know what I mean.
