Immediately I received this set of taps and dies for free in exchange for an honest review. I already have a set of taps and dies (about 75 pieces) so I can compare them and give you an honest appraisal of this set. The first thing that immediately catches my eye is the beautiful hard metal case that this whole set comes in. The other set was in a blown plastic case that wasn't overly hard and durable. With a plastic case, if you press hard enough with your thumb, it may permanently push it inward. The fact that it comes in a hard metal case is such a huge plus, especially since you get SO MANY individual pieces in one set, it's heavy! After loosening the latches and opening the lid you will find that all the individual parts of the tap and die are housed in a very thin plastic case with a clear plastic lid on top. If I have one complaint about this entire set, this is it. I know it will cost more money but it would be great if all the parts were held in place with some kind of rigid foam instead of the very flimsy plastic they currently come from. The weight of all the tools and parts makes it very difficult to pull two layers out of the metal case or at least remove the top layer to get to the tools on the bottom layer. There's nowhere to put your fingers to pull up and peel off the top layer to get to the tools on the bottom layer, and it's quite frustrating. That issue aside, this whole set is amazing. The Tap & Die set is not used regularly. However, I guarantee that when you need it, you will regret not having it. I recently ordered a sou vide platter and the little clip that attaches the platter to the container was completely free of internal threads and a set of stampers saved the day. I drilled a few holes in a piece of aluminum with my power drill and was able to tap holes for a couple of mounting screws with a set of taps. Really useful stuff. The advantage of this set is that you get so many pieces here that you will most likely never need another set or tool or size that is not in this set again. All parts are expertly crafted, and while I haven't used all of the parts here, I haven't found any quality issues with the ones I have. Can I recommend this set? I would say if you have used a tap and die set before and know how handy they are when you need them and want a very good quality set with almost endless standard and metric sizes then I recommend this one from with all my heart. If you have never used a tap and die set but have been thinking about getting one, you can purchase a smaller set (very similar to my smaller 75 piece set that I currently own but will be giving away) for less money . If you're the kind of person who would rather have a very good set and never buy another one then I really recommend this.
