I've had this router for 7 or 8 years now. I disabled it for a few years and then reinstalled it a year ago after getting my first wifi device. I had only one problem, recently I had to reset because my wifi was very slow. Shutting down and restarting increased my download speed (apeedtest.net iPad app) from 0.5MB to 3-6MB. Fast enough to stream video from one device. I think the long range is because of my overall connection speed which is between 6 and 9. It's an old technology that only works on the 802.11g band. D-Link does not support DI 524 with firmware updates from 2007 or 2008. I'm surprised it's still available at retail. I'm not a techie, so I can't recommend any alternatives. I'm sure there are better options with newer technology running at b, g, n and a. However, mine is fully functional after a few years. I've never had any overheating issues as mentioned in another review. My final conclusion is that I probably wouldn't buy this router today. I would look for a more modern one. But I have no complaints. After a few years he's still doing what he's supposed to do and I don't even know he's there.
