Updated: Fixed issues with MongoDB

EDIT: As of June 2020, the Unifi controller supports MongoDB 3.6, which is supported upstream. Unifi hotspots are pretty good from a hardware perspective. They almost rival the best performing consumer Wi-Fi hotspots on the market. They have a really weird antenna pattern so they need to test placement a little more to get good coverage. The biggest issue with them is the controller software (which is a huge benefit when setting up and monitoring multiple of them). If you want to control your networks locally, either buy a cloud key or install your own Linux server and run the Unifi Controller software as a service. If you are setting up your own controller you will need to install MongoDB 3.4 which is EOL and no longer patched. If you buy a cloud key, you get an embedded version of MongoDB 2.6, which is even worse. After contacting support, they indicate that they do not plan to update these software dependencies and accept or deny it. Our corporate network policy does not allow us to run unsupported and vulnerable software. If you want to manage these devices and avoid installing old, insecure software on your network, the only way to set them up is through the smartphone app. Pretty disappointing for a company that sells business class components.
