Poor range, read between the lines

I bought this as a WiFi upgrade in my 1800 sq ft house and wasn't impressed. Sure, I get incredibly high speeds around the device, but move 30 feet away and the signal drops off quickly. Outdoors, where my 3-year-old TP-Link router provides adequate coverage, I have to wave my phone in the air and hope the connection doesn't drop. Yes, it is connected to my gigabit switch. Yes, I installed a controller and used a non-overlapping WiFi channel. No, 2.4GHz is not crowded. Yes, I installed it…

Updated: Fixed issues with MongoDB

EDIT: As of June 2020, the Unifi controller supports MongoDB 3.6, which is supported upstream. Unifi hotspots are pretty good from a hardware perspective. They almost rival the best performing consumer Wi-Fi hotspots on the market. They have a really weird antenna pattern so they need to test placement a little more to get good coverage. The biggest issue with them is the controller software (which is a huge benefit when setting up and monitoring multiple of them). If you want to control your…

bandwidth! for computers and accessories

For wireless home communication in a complex one-story layout. Lots of brick walls. I have this Ubiquiti nanoHD on one end serving a small 2nd floor and most of the ground floor. NanoHD has fantastic bandwidth - as long as you can get a signal. Its range is clearly local, the bandwidth at 5 GHz is higher than the connection range even at a frequency of 2.4. I covered slower areas with LR serving the same SSIDs. If we were only concerned with connection security and range, I would definitely use

Great for home use.

Currently 1 is in use, another one will be added later. 1 AP covers my whole house with 2100 SF, but for my outdoor cameras it's better to use 2 evenly distributed with lower power settings. It integrates well with Unifi. Delivery is slow. Every time I make a change, it takes time to prepare, and sometimes I have to do a hard reset after changing the settings. I use 3 SSIDs with no problems. By default, SSIDs 2.4 and 5.8 are created, but you can disable one or the other for each SSID if you…

Firmware mature, we're ready to launch

Update 12/07/18 – Ubiquiti is great at releasing new firmware every few days with tons of bug fixes in each version. Since version 4.0 this access point has been very reliable and I can confidently recommend it to anyone looking for a top quality access point in a compact form factor. There are still a few quirks and limitations associated with edge case features like wireless uplink, but the basic hotspot functionality works great and all my wireless devices now connect and stay connected with
