Review on ๐Ÿšฒ YAKIMA FullBack Premium Trunk Strap Bike Rack by Erik Peterson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good bike rack

This is a very good bike rack. It got 4 stars instead of 5 because of a couple of imperfections that didn't matter to me. For reference I have a two bike version and I installed it on a 2013 Toyota Venza crossover. It had a men's and a women's bike, with the women's bike fitted with an inexpensive crossbar, which was necessary in my case. Once properly assembled everything was very solid and wobbled a bit. This rack is pretty solid and requires no assembly. I found the installation fairly easy, in part because I've used trunk mount racks before and they all work the same way. Once the trunk has been adjusted to the vehicle, it no longer needs to be readjusted, so the additional time required for initial assembly (adjusting the belt length, learning how to assemble the hooks) is not repeated. All you have to do is put on and tighten the four fastening straps correctly. It is important that the trunk does not rest on the bumper after loading bikes to avoid denting the bumper. This is accomplished by tightening the top straps. Smaller drawbacks were the weight of the luggage rack and the integrated bike lock system. The stand weighs just over 20 pounds, a bit hefty, but since it feels fairly solid it feels like a compromise. However, the built-in lock is annoying because the length of the retaining rope is quite short - I was able to secure the bike parked outside next to the lock with a little manoeuvring. If you are transporting only one bike, the built-in cable will not suffice as it must be placed in the internal slot closest to the vehicle. So either use your own cable and lock and then connect it to the built in system. or buy a longer cable. lock out. There are other nice features too. The rack can be strapped to the trunk to deter theft and the bars holding the bikes can be folded up and out of the way when not in use. The tilt of the stand can be easily and securely adjusted to fit different vehicles with a snap-lock system, similar to bike mounts. There is also a system for stowing the extra length of strap. Overall this is a very good bike rack that I am happy with.
