Perfect fountain siphon hose

Product is as described and just what I wanted to siphon / drain water from our elevated 3-tier fountain (bird bath) during weekly cleaning of bird poop and insects. I bought the 3/4" ID x 1" OD x 8 meter length (26-1/4 ft) - long enough to reach our "sloping" lawn which contributes additional siphon vacuum. I wanted something clear to observe the siphon flow while sucking up debris, yet flexible with minimal rigidity, and coilable without memory if kinked during winter garage storage. Clear PVC was slightly cheaper, but more rigid vs silicone for the same wall thickness (1/16" too thin), and doesn't lay flat on the ground due to coil memory.Yes, the fountain has drain plugs for all three levels, but the water will drain down through the raised rock bed that's supporting the fountain, then seeps under the closest patio retaining wall and onto concrete flooring. That's not so bad except the wife adds concentrated water-soluble blue pool coloring (non-toxic) which leaves blue residue on the rocks and patio floor. So, we use this hose to drain the blue water onto the lawn. The entire siphon process takes about seven minutes. I was tempted to buy the larger 1" ID x 1-1/4" OD for faster drainage, but wasn't sure if the silicone hose would collapse under siphon, but based on the diameter I selected, now feel confident the 1" ID would've been fine with its 1/8" wall thickness for rigidity.Note: The color is not "crystal clear" per the listing description, but slightly milky transparent like the photos depict. The title description states "food-grade", but one of the photos states "medical-grade".Not sure what the specification differences are, but it didn't matter for my application. The durometer is "Shore 50A" rubber hardness which is specified in the descriptions of other size options. (Shore 40A = Pencil Eraser, Shore 60A = Car Tire Tread).I believe this was the least expensive brand listing for this and other sizes of silicone tubing, but shop to be sure.IMPORTANT: There are numerous negative reviews from buyers who seemingly chose large diameter tubing, but selected only 1/16" wall thickness and expected it to be rigid enough. That thin wall thickness will NOT support a vacuum, nor pressure over several pounds with a rubber hardness of 50A.Make sure you select the correct wall thickness for your application while understanding the rubber hardness scale of "Shore 50A" which can be found on the internet.

Pros
  • High temperature resistance up to 450°F for versatile applications
Cons
  • May not be suitable for high-temperature applications
