I'm the cook in the house (although the hub can make a bowl of cereal or a pot of boiling water) so I was keen to get a good set of knives I decided to replace the old ones, that I had. If you are looking for a good starter knife set, this is a good buy. Here's why: BENEFITS: - The knives are well weighted and balanced, making them easy to use and comfortable to wear on the wrist. I use a cleaver most often because I like the feel of a heavier knife with a large surface area that allows me to easily chop, mince, mash and dice whatever I need. Knife variety just right. Unless you're a serious cook (in which case you're probably buying a more professional set anyway) these 5 are perfect for the home.- The peeler looks very flimsy but works really well! I was skeptical because it's plastic and looks like a toy, but it cuts vegetable skins like no other. - Looks good! It's sleek, modern, and super organized. I love how clean it looks and how it fits perfectly on my counter. Everything is easily accessible and it's not like those wooden knife blocks where you can't tell what's what without pulling it out. Note, however, that scissors are pretty crappy. They cut well, but the silicone parts that protect your hands come off very easily (like every time you use or wash them) and it becomes a big pain in the neck. I decided to just leave them in the holder and opted for a better set of kitchen scissors instead. Rust. The knives themselves are a bit small, but so is the stand. This is a pretty tricky coaster and between nooks and crannies it's difficult to clean when water gets on it so it will get ugly over time. If you're waiting to get that super expensive knife set that you can buy once and use forever, this set will get you hooked. If you are looking for a durable set I would suggest investing a little more money in a more durable and reliable set.
