I wanted 2 computers to share keyboard, mouse and monitor. The monitor has separate inputs from each computer, so I really only needed one switch to connect the USB keyboard and monitor (no KVM switch). This device only accepts one USB input and switches it to one of the two USB output ports. My keyboard has a USB connector for a mouse, so the USB cable from the keyboard carries signals from both the keyboard and the mouse. The device mechanically switches this input to one of the USB cables leading to the two computers. So simple and very effective. I didn't need extra bulky video cables. No outlet required. The perfect solution to a simple problem. Other devices advertised 4 inputs with indicator lights. This device has only one input and front panel buttons for two outputs. When one button is pressed the other pops out so you can easily see which output is selected by looking at the buttons. All ports are on the back and the buttons are on the front. I looked at many competing products that had more features than I needed, and most of them had this or that unwanted feature. This is perfect for the situation I described. I love it.
