Summary First, after 2 months of trying, the device completely fails to prevent calcification on glass surfaces. Experiment: I really want this solution to work, so let's start with 5 stars. I used the whole spool and the spacing between the spools is a lot over half an inch; just a straight pipe. I attach a photo of the installation and a photo of the kettle "before". It was completely cleaned with a vinegar solution just 3 weeks ago. So we have a problem and a baseline for the test. The plan is to clean the kettle after a week and see what happens after 4 weeks.
