Review on Proteus AMBIO: Smart Wifi Temperature Humidity Sensor with Buzzer & Alerts by Cho Screeton

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The buzzer does not sound when the WiFi is down. The "Callback after WLAN off " function could not be executed.

Overall this is a good device but I am giving it one star because there are certain things that are not acceptable even though everything else about the product is good enough. There are certain things that couldn't be sold until they fixed that part of the design. There is a certain limit that every product must cross before it can be sold to people. So for me personally if there is something wrong with a product I give it one star even if some features work well. What they got very wrong is that the buzzer doesn't sound when the wifi goes down. This is seriously stupid and bad. It doesn't look like there's any other device with buzzer or temperature sensor connected via WiFi anywhere. The temperature sensor is plugged in like the buzzer and connected to the device! If previously configured over WiFi, it does not need to remain connected for the buzzer to work. That makes it completely unreliable. WiFi is one of the most notoriously unreliable technologies ever devised, especially WiFi routers that clearly offer a 2.4 network to connect to. Since the invention of mesh routers, Wi-Fi has gotten a lot more reliable on them, but this device doesn't connect to them because while they still support 2.4 signals, they don't really compete for smart routers. Devices know they can connect to them. Program this device to keep the latest settings from the cloud and keep working with local functions (buzzer) when the device is offline! When I first got this setup it didn't work. Temperature and humidity are shown as 0 on their website. I've looked through the FAQ information and found nothing. I finally went to their website and found a phone number to call and get tech support. They advised me that even if the sensor cable looks like it's fully plugged in (which it really is), I should still try to push it further. I did this and it clicked and started working. You should really emphasize this non-obvious but necessary step right in the guide. Before calling them, I first tried using the "Contact Us" feature on their cloud service website, which you must use with the product. That allowed me to send them a few questions. Even after a few weeks I still haven't received a reply from them. It wasn't until I went to their product website and called this number that I received tech support. They really should better promote this tech support hotline and respond to questions posed by their support website. I have included my phone number and email address where you can reach me. I tried to work around the buzzer not sounding offline issue by enabling the feature to receive a call when the sensor goes offline (due to WiFi or power failure). I couldn't get it to work. The format instructions for providing a phone number contradicted the example provided. None of them worked. I could call tech support to try and get this working, but I'm done at this point. I didn't trust them anymore. I don't trust people like that to build a product that will work reliably when I need it and for a long time, even if I can get it to work.
