Works as a web device on LAN

I use this device to control the temperature in our church when no one is around. For security reasons I wanted it to only connect to the internal LAN. It wasn't clear from questions or reviews, but it works well enough for that. If you follow the instructions to connect to your local network, you should be able to set it up. You need a way to snoop on its IP address as initially it uses DHCP to get an address. Once you have done this you can connect to the browser and see the home screen with…

Silence for Snowbirds

So I've only had the sensor for two days but just wanted to let anyone thinking about buying it know how easy it is to set up. Just follow the included step-by-step instructions and you'll be set up in about 5 minutes. Make sure the sensor cable is fully inserted into the 3.5mm stereo jack or you will not get a reading. I'll probably update this review when we get home in the spring. I bought this to keep an eye on the temperature in our northern New England apartment as we head south this…

Better than advertised

It's not often that I get a review on a product that is much better than described. This! My app monitors the ambient temperature in my RV when we're not in it. I REALLY wanted a 12VDC unit, but all I could find was one advertised as 120VAC. The sensor turned out to work on 5VDC and the way it works on 120VAC is to use a standard 1A 5VDC iPhone charger with a USB port. It is very easy to replace an AC charger with a 12V DC car charger! When I discovered that the Wi-Fi network should be 2.4GHz…

Works, but my device isn't updating properly.

So it's very easy to set up a WiFi router password. Just plug it in and connect your computer to it (just like you connect to a router), set a Wi-Fi password and exit. It creates an account on the cloud server and sends the temperature to that server. You simply log into the cloud server with your smartphone and see the temperature and relative humidity. Cool, I don't have to tunnel into my firewall to get a reading. Cons: The cloud server needs help and the device has some unknown issues. I…

UPDATE 4/4/18: I just added a second Proteus sensor in the second position and it couldn't be easier. The nice thing is that I can use the same account as the original sensor even if it's on a different Wi-Fi network. Both sensors are now displayed on the same webpage and are individually configurable, allowing you to set different temperature ranges as well as different emails and notification texts. They also recently updated their website. This is a really great product from a great company!

$100 CLUMSY Technology - BEWARE - Save $$

After reading positive reviews I expected MUCH better BUT VERY DISAPPOINTED with this product. In short, this is VERY POORLY designed hardware and software at this price point ($100). I'm not sure what the incentive was for those 5 star reviews or people just have low expectations of the technology. COMMENTS: Typical Chinese quality you would expect from a cheap plastic toy, not a $100 product. You get an inferior block of plastic and a separate 3.5mm cable (similar to an external speaker) with

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • unreliable

Overall this is a good device but I am giving it one star because there are certain things that are not acceptable even though everything else about the product is good enough. There are certain things that couldn't be sold until they fixed that part of the design. There is a certain limit that every product must cross before it can be sold to people. So for me personally if there is something wrong with a product I give it one star even if some features work well. What they got very wrong is…
