I use this device to control the temperature in our church when no one is around. For security reasons I wanted it to only connect to the internal LAN. It wasn't clear from questions or reviews, but it works well enough for that. If you follow the instructions to connect to your local network, you should be able to set it up. You need a way to snoop on its IP address as initially it uses DHCP to get an address. Once you have done this you can connect to the browser and see the home screen with current measurements. You can set it to a fixed IP address and add credentials for further customization. It sends emails perfectly without a cloud account. If the power is cut off, it will return to the network and keep working.
