Review on Passive Compatible SFP H10GB CU0 2M Juniper Ubiquiti by Jairo Cunha

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Suitable for DAC in network products

Bought as 10GbE DAC to connect Synology DS1517+ to PC. I added Mellanox CX311A adapters to both my PC and Synology and didn't want to upgrade to a 10GbE switch and all these hassles. Normally 7 meters should be an advantage for a passive DAC, but unfortunately I needed a 10 meter cable. . I chose this cable. First the cable: This is a good solid build with a fairly, but not overly stiff cable. Thickness is slightly thicker than Cat 6a. In general it seems reliable. Second (and more importantly) it works: Yes, as far as I can expect. My Synology system does not support true 10GbE. 5 drives with RAID cannot generate more than 500MB/s, and other tests on the 10GbE DS1517+ show a practical upper limit of around 450MB/s for reads. I get about this power. The expectation was justified. Third, reliability: This is a passive cable. It works. I suspect something could go wrong, but I didn't see it. Finally, the cost: it's expensive for the cable, but cheap for the overall SFP+. I really don't know why everything SFP related is so expensive. This is a cable. A 50 foot Cat 8 cable is cheaper than this. Cat 6a is significantly cheaper. SFP+ ports can't be that expensive. My adapters were very cheap (eBay) so the overall cost of my solution (adding a faster connection to my Synology) was below all the alternatives. But still, it's just a cable. So do I recommend it? For what I used it for, absolutely. But I must stress that due to the limitations of my environment, I have no way of knowing if this cable can operate at 10GbE. I don't know what the limitations of the cables are.
