especially if the coil you suspect is bad is one that requires an intake manifold.

This product works exactly as I expected. Many modern cars hide their ignition coils under the intake manifold, which can significantly increase the time it takes to diagnose something as simple as a single cylinder misfire, especially if the coil you suspect is bad is one , which requires removal of the intake manifold. . (Example: On a 2006 Toyota Sienna, cylinders 2, 4 and 6 are accessible at the front of the engine. Cylinders 1, 3 and 5 must be penetrated under the intake manifold). If you are misfiring in cylinders 2, 4 or 6 it can be as simple as swapping the coil for another cylinder and seeing if the misfires move. If you have a misfire in one of the coils on the back row, you can't replace it without first spending 2-3 hours of work raising the intake manifold. With this tool you can stick a long flexible probe under the intake manifold and put the tip on the coil you want to test and you'll get a great waveform that will help with diagnosis in conjunction with a good DSO. The waveform measurements I've uploaded with this review were taken with this item (OTC 3825-56 and my Autel MP408 DSO). It shows two coils from the back row of the Sienna I used in my example. A good one with a good clean spark line and a bad coil with very low ignition KV and no spark line at all. This tool should work with any laboratory oscilloscope that accepts BNC connectors.
