I've been using the Shark Navigator Professional for about a year and can say it's a definite improvement over the cheaper vacuum I've used. The vacuum cleaner is quite light and manoeuvrable. I love the swivel head, it really allows me to tilt the tank and engine (the top of the car) sideways to get under tables and other objects. Some rotary vacuums also spin the wheels when you turn the handle to the side, allowing for tighter turns. This one doesn't. Instead, it just tilts the tank and engine out of the way, giving you more room to get under and around things. The narrow head is handy for working around and under chairs and edge tables and really seems to focus the powerful suction. That means you have to make more passes to cover space than if the head were wider, but my space is small and that's not a problem for me. The 3-position power switch is unusual. When switching it on, be sure to note that in the middle position you only vacuum. Pushing it all the way back turns on the roller brush in the scrub head. The hose on the hose is obviously too short, making long sweeping of hard floors difficult. I'm 6ft tall and have to constantly bend down to reach the floor with the hose/pipe. It doesn't take long for my back to hurt. Short people may not have this problem. There is a sliding port at the top of the tube that you must open to reduce the strong suction when cleaning deep pile carpets. I don't have it and it annoys me that the ventilation keeps opening and robbing me of the full cleaning power. This vent should close more securely and remain closed. The hose is long enough for me to get enough clearance around the machine. I would like the hose to attach to the base of the vacuum cleaner instead of the top. Pulling on the hose (intentionally or not) causes the vacuum to tip over instead of just pulling the machine toward you. This is a design issue that seems like an obvious oversight. The downside to this is the power cord that comes from the base of the machine. I don't understand why it isn't coming out of the handle at the back, on top of the machine. This makes it easier to keep the cord in the path of the cleaning head. We certainly aren't pulling the machine by the power cord, so a low cord doesn't offer any of the benefits I see. There is storage on board for a brush and a slim crevice tool that fits the end of the hose. or pipe. There's also a wider nozzle that's handy for bare floors, but there's nowhere to store it on board. As a result, I rarely use it because it's always tucked away on a shelf in my closet somewhere. Another annoying design issue. I like the large capacity of the tank and how easy it is to empty. I'm very glad that I don't have to buy disposable filter bags for this vacuum cleaner. I have owned many vacuums over the years including the Oreck, Sharp, Kirby and Hoover. None of them seem to last more than a few years; some just a few months before things start to fall apart. It lasted about a year without breaking anything. It will hopefully be a few more years until then. Let me know if any of my comments here are helpful.
