I used to have expensive voltage testers and this little thing is great. Costs next to nothing, is made like a handle for easy carrying and storage and has so far done exactly what I bought it to do. The little flashlight function is really great, sometimes it's dark in these junction and electrical boxes! And as soon as the pen tip comes close to the hot junction, it starts beeping. You don't even have to remove the socket cover! Just point the pen tip at a hot outlet and it will start beeping. And as soon as you get into the switch box and you're not sure of the connection, touch the tip. If it's still plugged in and hot, it will beep. If there is no sound, you can continue! And even works with instrument cables and such. When I first got it I touched all the lamp and fixture wires just to hear the beep! This is how you test a battery before use. Before you use it, touch a lamp or toaster cord (or just try the flashlight button) and if it goes out, your battery is good. It doesn't have a pressure gauge or anything else to measure the force, but for a DIYer like me who just does basic things like installing a new plug or light switch, I just need to know if I'm properly off the switch! I recommend! Very good value for money!
