Review on Amprobe 37XR-A: Advanced True RMS Digital Multimeter with Component Logic Test by Keith Gonzales

Excellent for this money!

I am an aircraft mechanic and needed a reliable gauge that could perform all the functions of this gauge. It was between that and the much more expensive Fluke gauge. Having used this gauge extensively I have to say that it does what it's supposed to do and works just as well as the more expensive Fluke. The meter is rated at 1000 volts and 10 amps, making it useful for almost any application. I personally like the selector switch better than the multifunction buttons on Fluke test tools. The problem I have found with this meter is that there is a lot of noise on the wires when measuring without the caps. The wires come with 2 screw caps on the ends of the wires to give a more accurate reading I believe as inaccurate readings can occur if other voltage sources are nearby. These ends will get in the way of measuring objects inside the hole and will need to be removed if you need a longer tip. The gauge comes with alligator clips for wire ends and a temperature sensor. Another problem I encountered concerns the temperature sensor. This is a simple design of a small box that fits into the gauge's sensor jacks. My probe arrived broken but I took the box apart by simply taking the box apart, splitting it in half and reconnecting the wires that had come loose from their correct positions. The meter comes with an extra fuse located under the back of the meter. There is a small fuse and a large fuse. Access to the large fuse is only possible after the meter's outer casing and backplate have been completely removed. The smaller fuse is the only one that includes a spare. Small fuses are more likely to blow when basic currents/voltages are measured. I found a replacement for less than $5. If you think a fuse is blown, use a fuse tester to make sure it is actually blown. Overall it wasn't worth spending over £300 on a more expensive meter as this guy does pretty much everything you could possibly need.
