Review on ๐Ÿพ SmartDoor Wall Entry Kit by PetSafe by Rosalee Rivera

Really great idea - very poorly implemented.

I don't even know where to start. The collar is too heavy. It's ok for my big dog, but there's no way my Jack Russell mix will be able to wear it. The back of the label fell off, had to be sealed with tape. The battery that came with the tag died, making programming a real headache until I figured out the problem. You also have to buy a new backplate and battery from the company every time, this is not a battery you can get in a store. The door itself is very noisy. If you have a dog that goes in, out, and back in, he'll be buzzing all night. I couldn't get the sensitivity right - it either opened every time the dog approached, or the dog stood by the door waiting for it to open. If you have a dog trying to fly over it, it will likely become quite dangerous for him. The door panel itself is very hard plastic and every time the dog goes through it swings back and forth violently, probably at least 8 times, which is very noisy and scary for a little one. I bought a door to keep the cat in and the dog out but there is a 10 second delay before the door closes, the kitten has enough time to escape and it doesn't actually close until the dog is gone , so my dog goes outside, stands on the deck for 5 minutes and is open minded the whole time. It's such a great idea, but so poorly done. I wish I could get it back, but since I drilled a big hole in the wall to install it, I'd have to hire someone to pull it out and patch it up, so I guess I'm stuck with it for life. The only good thing about this product is that because it's made of hard plastic and has a decent seal, it keeps cold air in much better than my last dog door, and because it's so difficult to open and the swing door is pretty scary to my cat it tried it.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • I don't know anymore
