50/50 The design is good, the computing power is not enough.

Design is good but I lack the technology I am looking for. and faster processor, please promote it, I will be first in line. Pros: It is very good in terms of fit/shape and design. Size and shape are great. The rubber texture and button layout are easy to hold and the buttons are easily accessible. It's light enough to work on a helmet with our counterweights. Comes with an adapter for easy helmet mounting with some standard action camera connectors. It's easy to focus and the IR illumination is perfect, 5 levels and not easy for others to see. I could only see the light when they looked directly at me. The backlight isn't very bright when you dim it, so you don't have too much glare on your face. Everything I would like to have has its own button (zoom, IR, backlight, menu, OK and PWR). CONS: Digital NV is only good at around 30 yards, so it's definitely a short distance. It is also very difficult to open the battery compartment, I needed 2 screwdrivers, one to move the latch and one to open the door. This is not what deal breakers think. The zoom can be 1x, but it seems to be more. It was difficult to walk and know your position in relation to objects, the field of view is about 35 degrees horizontal / 24 degrees vertical (that's 30 x 20 inches at 4ft in front of the lens) (6 x 4ft at 10ft). And the lens is 8 inches in front of your eye. Why am I returning them? The technology/processing speed isn't responsive enough for me to be comfortable in pitch black environments where a quick response might be required. The screen is small and the resolution is low. When you move your head, the screen has a hard time keeping up and just creates a blurry image for a while until you stop moving your head. Second, it slowly adapts to changes in brightness. For example, if you are moving around the house and try to look through a door but there is a wall nearby, the IR light will reflect off the wall and obscure the background so you cannot see through the door. If you then walk past a wall/reflection it will take some time to get used to the new brightness and to be able to see into the room. All indoor tests were performed with IR lighting and the minimum lighting setting. So since I would have to move like a turtle to use this in my house it's NOGO. Depending on your application, this can still be a valuable tool for the price. Price. I have very limited experience with Digital NV but I am comparing it to a recently purchased VABSCE 2021 night vision binoculars which have a very clear screen and seem to update fairly quickly to limit blur. The only problem is that it's not 1x zoom. If you're looking for a pair of zoom binoculars that can really light up the night from afar, I recommend this one.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
