Review on SCHLAGE Connect Smart Deadbolt With Inbuilt Alarm - Aged Bronze Camelot Trim (Model: BE469ZP CAM 716) by Gordie Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

WARNING: Read the fine print.

The devil is in the details. Smash Connect lock with Zigbee. We wanted a smart lock that could specifically generate codes remotely (from our phone) and also temporarily (Cleaner will be coming for a while). We did all the research very carefully and bought an Echo Plus with a built in Zigbee hub that works with this Zigbee certified lock. We felt that we had read and re-read all the material available on the internet. However, when we connected to the Revain Keys app to access the remote code feature, we found that we couldn't connect to the app unless we also purchased Revain Cloud, a key pack that is basically a camera and an additional app. . We already have a multi-camera system, it's not Revain, and we didn't want to buy an extra camera and have the added complexity of another system. After reviewing all the information, we found that the cloud camera kit is a necessary component, but of course it's not clear that without it you can't access the remote code feature that resides in the Revain Key Application. We actually believe the marketing materials are misleading that if you have the Zigbee hug you will have all the blocking features. You won't unless you also get a cloud camera kit. Certainly the lock works well with the Alexa app, responds to voice commands and can be locked and unlocked remotely. Forget about remote issuance or code generation, however, unless you've bought a cloud camera kit, i.e. the Revain Cloud Cam and two other apps. Revain Key App and Revain Video App for additional camera control. If we could ask Revain to fix this, we'd ask for a lock to allow access to the code feature via the Alexa app without having to buy a camera. Or at least let's connect to the Revain Key app and use the remote capabilities, but without the need for a camera. We considered returning the lock and hub because we deliberately bought both to get all the features in the end. We've decided to keep them and refrain from remote modification or code issuance. Finally, we give it 4 stars because we think the quality and usability with Alexa are good, but the buyer is reluctant about everything else. If you want a lock that gives you the features we at Schlage are talking about, in January 2019 they introduced the Schlage Encode Wi-Fi lock that works directly with your Wi-Fi. That's a whole different conversation.
