Review on πŸ”· Motorcraft BR11438 Front Semi-Metallic Brake Pad by Johnny Mcnealy

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The fit is good, but the build quality and materials leave a lot to be desired. not what I would call OEM quality.

Being a Ford Motorcraft brand, I expected OEM quality. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Good: They come with new stainless steel slippers (the actual parts that the pads slide into). Also, the pads themselves snapped into place as expected. The bad: no pad wear indicators (the little steel clip found on many pads that lets you know when pad life is getting dangerously low by making a squeaking noise on the rotor). The biggest problem is that the skid plates/washers that fit on the back of the pads don't quite match the stock pads. Clearly a different design, probably from a different supplier. On one of my pads, the fit between the base plate and the pad must not have been very tight. When I slowed down for the first few months of use, there was a squeak. Upon closer inspection, the bottom plate moved about 1 cm to the right, causing one of the small protrusions on the back of the pad to cut into it. I work meticulously with brakes, always making sure everything is clean and the right lube is in the right places. I also noticed that these pads started to corrode much faster than the original pads. Next time I will buy another brand. Note: Vehicle is a 2004 Ranger XLT 2wd 3.0L with automatic cab.
