I love that I can use a 1.5 inch stick connector, they are strong and have a good finish. Two things I would change: mounting holes in the same position on each end and a hole in the open end for a screw to fix the rod. About holes: if you measure the position vertically to drill holes on each end, the rod will be tipped because the holes on the open end are offset by about 1/4 inch. Carefully measure the rod with a spirit level. About securing the pole: It doesn't matter, but if you're using a wooden pole, other designs allow you to put a small wood screw through the hole. a hole in the side of the open tip to secure the stem. Without a screw, the bar can bounce and I've seen them pop out if someone is too aggressive with the hanger (like teenagers). With this design, you must either accept that the stem is loose or put a spoonful of glue in the open end to hold the stem.
