We bought blackout shades from a big box Swedish company for our boys’ bedroom and these for our room. These were the more expensive of the two pairs. We live near a shipyard, so it is NEVER dark at night - the birds are up chirping at 1 and 2 am! So blackout shades were essential. These shades block out light relatively well, leaving a small gap at each side that allows only the brightest sun into the room. The color is nice. The one thing that keeps this from being a 5-star review is that they do not always push up as smoothly as the less expensive set of shades. They are sticky. But otherwise they are a decent set of blackouts
