Review on Coleman Comfort Series Life Vest by Kenneth Barnes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good vest but maybe not ideal for a sit down kayak

Product size chart. For use in a canoe or sit-down kayak, this is an extremely comfortable and practical vest. However, I was planning on using it with my Old Town Vapor 10 angler while seated with a higher backrest to sit on. This type of vest, like many others, only has buoyancy in the upper half of the back. The "foam" is quite hard, and in the normal position on my back it seemed like I was sitting 2 x 4 just under the shoulder blades with no lower back support. Worse, when it "pulls up," the bottom edge of the "foam" sits/hangs on top of the backrest. Basically this raises the whole jacket by about 6 inches, at least for me. Aside from a small waterproof pillow under my lower back, it was unsuitable for me. However, for any other application, this is a good life jacket.

Pros
  • Robust construction: 200D nylon shell, PE foam and an adjustable buckle strap
Cons
  • Low repairability
