The texture is a little rough. It looks more like torn napkins than white linens that look like shredded toilet paper. I have noticed a difference in odor control compared to white linens. This brown bedding has a funny smell when I open the bag but when I use it on my hamster there is NO strong smell of urine on the 3rd day of cleaning. The white bedding had a strong smell of urine on the 3rd day of cleaning. I chose this one because hamsters like to be in the dark most of the time.
