I used to use a threaded rod with a couple of washers or steel plates to press in bottom brackets. But it works much better. It not only pushes in the new bottom bracket, but also pushes out the existing bottom bracket without damage. Previously the bottom bracket would have been destroyed if I had taken it out. In the meantime I've learned that I can also use this press to press in or out spring bearings on our full-suspension bikes. I use metric freewheels and it's very easy to remove and replace all the bearings on the bike without damaging them. I love this press. It has become one of my favorite bike maintenance tools.
