Review on XSCORPION CB300L Circuit Breaker Indicator by Jonathan Suarez

Revainrating 2 out of 5

There's no way this thing supports 300 amps DC. Nevertheless probably a good cheap device for modest car radios.

Updated 12/08/15 Since my initial check it has kept the find at 24 volts by drawing 100 amps of DC. I downgraded it to two stars because it now only holds 40 amps and works instead of charging 80 amps while going through a 24 volt DC charge. The device felt very hot. I'm pulling this guy out and about to order a 200 amp Blue Sea Systems 187 series surface mount switch. Its specs seem heavier, and here at Amazon it has a 5-star rating with rave reviews. I pay $85 for reliable hardware. This scorpion switch is probably good for car stereos, but in my opinion it's not what you want for a solid inverter battery pack. This is a fairly well built yet lightweight circuit breaker. My personal opinion is that under no circumstances is this thing going to be able to handle 300 amps DC. Just for fun I bought one to connect to the positive line of my solar power system. It seemed to be working fine as it was running 40-60 amps of DC power for the past week as I drained my battery. Due to weak sunlight, I turned on the shore-side inverter charging function to recharge the batteries. After about 5 minutes I came back to check the progress and saw that everything was closed. The switch snapped and felt very warm. My inverter charger was running about 100 amps DC (24V) through this unit on the positive side when it exploded. I lowered the maximum charge percentage back down to about 80 amps DC and the breaker lasted for several hours while the battery was charging. So I can attest that it stayed under 60 amps DC for several weeks, at least hours at 80 amps DC, and worked for several minutes when 100 amps DC was applied to it. I'll update if applying more than 100 amps (rather than pushing while charging) makes a difference. I expect the plastic case and mounting screws to feel a little heavier - they feel light and performance seems to match that observation as well. I didn't even get close to 300 amps through it. I'll probably need to use a good built in backup to achieve my goal.
