EDIT: A few hours later... After waking the laptop from sleep mode, it began a continuous series of "shutting down" beeps - approximately every 5 seconds. The only way to stop this is to (physically) disable the adapter. Rebooting and reconnecting seems normal, but after some time (20 minutes?) the tones started up again. Checking the Windows logs showed something about "TCP is not binding". This adapter doesn't suit me, so I can't recommend it at this time. Original rating (4 stars): I got the error message "USB device not recognized" when I first plugged it in. After pulling it out and putting it back in, I found that it wasn't fully connected on the first try. In fact, it took a little while to pull it out again. Now after turning it on and off several times it works as it should. It's plug and play, and with a little thought, my computer switched to a wired LAN with Wi-Fi and then back again with no problem when the adapter was removed. I've run Ookla Speedtest a few times and gotten a few megapixels per second using a wired wireless connection, but the important thing is that it worked without any bottlenecks.
