Well if you are a first time buyer like me then size is VERY important. I thought oh no big deal I'll just take the small one as I've never used one. 9X12 is a lot smaller than you think. I was trying to make some shirts and sweatshirts in my husband's business sizes XL-2XL. I had a hard time centering the clothes on the base as the clothes don't have much room to move when pressed. Any item, no matter how many times I measure and measure again, we are crooked. The top plate and arm fold out, but there's a cord on the back of the machine to prevent you from pulling an item through it that way.
