Best in breaker just in case

The whole purpose of a circuit breaker is to be there in case of a problem. I have a 50 amp unit for use with a boat trolling motor that is supposed to draw up to 40 amps. I like that it comes with a short pole with a 3/8 hole for mounting on the battery post. The only thing I would change is if it had a 5/16 or 3/8 stud to connect existing wires instead of a 3/16 stud. They include a ring connector to connect to this stud, but not cutting off the original and attaching a new one makes the job easier. June 2013 update: I've used the boat and trolling motor with no problems, except that the battery died completely (and became a dead-in-the-water fish). When I went back and connected the battery to my truck (to at least partially charge it, not leave it fully discharged), this breaker jumped out of the flow of energy to charge. Interestingly, even when my truck was just idling, the energy flow for charging became too great.

Pros
  • Better than a fuse blowing and ruining the fishing
Cons
  • Crumpled
