Review on LG 34UM69G-B UltraWide Monitor: 34-Inch 2560X1080P, 75Hz, HD, Reduction by Eric Wolf

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The PERFECT ultrawide solution for my 2012 MacBook Pro. However.

I've tried NUMEROUS cable combinations with my legacy (though recently upgraded to 2TB SDD and 16GB RAM) MacBook Pro Mid 2012 and my new LG 34UM69G-B 34" 21:9 UltraWide screen to get a full resolution of 2560 x 1080 no success I've used MiniDP-DP, MiniDP-HDMI, Thunderbolt-DVI with a DP adapter, Thunderbolt-DVI with a HDMI adapter, and MiniDP-DVI with a HDMI adapter and NONE worked without horrible egg-shaped distortion in low resolution mode. I decided to give it another try and bought a Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) to DisplayPort cable (search for ASIN B00C7RJQPY) and it turned out to be just a trick! For older MacBooks like mine is REALLY not suitable for the hardware - a customized Thunderbolt to DP cable to get the aspect ratio for an ultrawide monitor, MiniDP doesn't work (or at least not for me) and I have e Read some tech support articles saying there is quite a big difference between MiniDP and Thunderbolt (due to higher data/transfer/power rates with Thunderbolt). make a difference, at least when it comes to older MacBook Pro models. While MiniDP and Thunderbolt share the same form factor and are interchangeable in many ways, older MacBooks like mine couldn't get the monitor to display the full 2560 x 1080 no matter what I tried (even with display modification/permissions apps from the Apple applications). Save on computer). I bought this cable (Lightning-DP) and the first time I plugged it in the monitor automatically switched to 2560 x 1080 and I haven't looked back. I'm very happy with how it worked! Save time and money. If you have an old MacBook and a new ultrawide monitor, get the right cable (like the one mentioned above)!
