It works great with my DirecTV Genie receiver and remote! My receiver is in an open space (not in a closet) but deep on the floor of my living room. It's a place where it's very difficult to pick up standard IR from old remotes and I hate the new RF remotes that come with new Genie receivers. I bought the BlastIR hoping it would help boost the signal from my old DirecTV remote so I didn't have to make a conscious effort to point the remote directly at the receiver every time I changed channels. BlastIR initially didn't work when I installed it on the receiver. Through trial and error I found that the IR photo sensor on the Genie receiver needed to be covered after the BlastIR emitter was installed next to it. Otherwise the Genie will receive two separate IR signals; one processed directly by the console and one processed by BlastIR, which is why it is unresponsive. My solution was to take a thin piece of sheet metal and bend it 90 degrees to make a cover to block the remote control signal. I positioned the cover so that one corner was attached to the top of the DirecTV receiver and the other corner was bent to cover the photo sensor. The BlastIR emitter is installed inside under the cover. With the BlastIR receiver mounted high on my TV, I have great IR remote control!
