Review on Andersen Spindle Long Frenchwood Hinged by James Ohlrogge

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent spindle replacement. Inexpensive repair of a defective door lock!

The doorknob on one of our back doors always felt a bit "wet". As you reached for the door, the knob seemed to buckle inward. Sometimes when you pushed to open the door, the handle would stay down. I finally got around to taking the lock off the door and realized what was wrong. The original spindle that Anderson supplied when the door was installed was partially broken. When I received the new spindle from Revain, I immediately noticed that it was very different from the original Anderson spindle. This new spindle is MUCH, MUCH better. The design is better. It has a groove for the door handle set screw. The older spindle had a slot for a set screw. I think the old "groove design" is why our original spindle broke and the lock stopped working. The material of this new spindle is also of higher quality than that of the old spindle. The new spindle appears to be solid brass. The old original spindle is made of soft aluminum. Installation was very easy. Actually a lot easier than I expected. Easily remove a handle by turning the set screw on the door handle with an Allen key. After loosening the set screw, remove the door handle. The other door handle on the other side of the door now slides out easily. The old spindle will pop out along with the door handle. Replacing an old spindle is easy! In 15 minutes. Broken tailgate repaired with hugs and kisses from my wife !NOTE: Be sure to measure the length of your current spindle. You may need a 4 3/4" or 5 3/4" spindle instead of a 3 3/4" spindle.
