Believe negative review

After reading the positive and negative reviews about this converter, I decided to give it a try anyway. Guilty. I am returning it for a refund after a month. I live in the Chicago suburbs about 20 miles west of the city. I use an internal antenna to capture OTA channels. The device scanned perfectly and found all 80. For the first two weeks the device worked perfectly and recorded all the programs I had planned. But over time it got worse. I found that the remote "eats" the batteries. I changed them twice in less than a month. Suddenly, the internal clock, which was set to the Central Time Zone, was set to Eastern Time even though it indicated that it was set to the Central Time Zone. Last week, taping began 15-30 minutes after the show actually started. There were cases when the device turned on to start recording and didn't turn off after that. I checked the USB stick and nothing was written. I made sure to select "Record" and not "View". The instruction manual is little or no help. You need a magnifying glass to read. The remote control must be pointed directly at the box for it to work. The keys are too small for me and not very sensitive. I rated it a 2 because the scanner could find 80 channels and the image quality was pretty good. I'm an AT&T customer. Your idea of local channels is limited to 4-5. Neither CW nor PBS are included in their local package. We enjoy watching programs from both channels that we can only get on air. This article worked well for our purposes for a few weeks before it started going negative. I encountered other minor annoyances and issues which I won't list here as they appear in other reviews. I returned it for a refund.

Pros
  • Watch free digital channels - on HDTV, CRT, LCD, LED, Projector etc. - Multiple outputs: HDMI, component, coaxial and RCA - *Number of channels depends on location and antenna strength*
Cons
  • I will add later
